Dick Inman graduated from Georgia Tech in 1954 with a degree in Industrial Management. He joined the Tech football coaching staff as an assistant coach of the B team in 1957. He had served previously as a graduate assistant before his tour of Army duty. He became an assistant varsity coach working with defense in 1959. He left Tech in 1966 to become head defensive coach at the University of West Virginia for his former Tech teammate and fellow assistant coach, Jimmy Carlen, who was appointed head coach at West Virginia at that time.
